On Being A Creative

CREATIVES

I didn't know I was one until shortly after I started this blog a year ago.

Yes, you read that correctly! even with my Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and Media Arts, I never considered myself as a Creative.
Why? you may want to ask. Well, that's because I wasn't practicing and therefore didn't see the need to bestow myself with such a great title.

The dictionary meaning of the word Creative is “relating to or involving the use of the imagination or original ideas to create something" and as a noun, a Creative is a “Person whose job involves creative work”.

Now, are there some selected groups of people who can only be creatives? The answer to that question is NO, an emphatic NO for that matter.

The truth is God is the only source of ideas, talent, and any form of creativity you can ever think of or imagine. No one has a monopoly on talent, ideas, and creativity. The only difference between people whom you consider as creatives and those who are not is the act of practice. It is the act of Practice that has given every creative the pleasure of being called one.

Like any other thing, It is the time and dedication channeled towards developing whatever talents they have.

Being creative is not all about acting weird and having funny clothes and a hairdo on.

Neither is it about standing in front of a camera with lights and a million eyes staring at you waiting for the director's call of “action" while you go on a roll "locking lips together and having a filled day in fornication” like my father will say (Pops has no chill at all).

Being a Creative is way beyond the glitz and glam that the whole world sees. Just like a bar of refined gold, that is the finished product.

It is fire and brimstone.

It is sweat, tears, and blood.

It is taking stupid uncalculated risk and diving into an ocean without a life jacket when you have a zero budget to pull off a production and your guts tell you to damn the consequences and go ahead without looking back. If I perish I perish!

It is being vulnerable and bearing your heart to total strangers who most necessary not appreciate you but blame you for all the woes that have befallen you. Like who send you message!

It is finding love and perfection in the strangest place through the lenses of a camera.

Say cheese!

Creativity is bringing to life that which was in your heart, thought and desire and sharing it with the rest of the world who are not bold enough to step into your shoes. Only a creative can achieve that.

As I read through all the posts from #WinterABC2021, I can only but imagine how much bigger God is in His creativity.

Damn! All these creative juices and they keep flowing. God is definitely having a fill this month.

I doff my hat for you all.
