A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO MUMS

Image
Before the day ends I just wanted to take out time to tell   you this,  Every woman is a Mother whether you have birthed or in the process of birthing a child or not. You are an incubator Someone once said "a woman is a man with a womb ; #Wombman" and I totally agree because women are actually men, but only a stronger version. Because how else can you define a human who is mad enough to push another human the size of a large cabbage down a tiny hole that is not even more than 4.8 to 6.3 I'm. Or even another human who is crazier and bold enough to lie on a table and have her stomach slit into two like a ram to slaughter just because the large cabbage sized human chose to follow that route out.  If you think that is crazy, here is something that is even crazier. Picture this, there's a woman, in her kitchen, cooking and stirring with one hand, arranging the house with another, attending to business with the other, sending office mails with another (I hear it is called

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THE MORNING AFTER

Image
Hey Tribe! I trust you are still in the spirit of Christmas. How was the Christmas day celebration at your end? I hope you were able to find some time to relax, spend time with family and friends, and just generally have fun. Well, I spent my day resting at home until Matana, my four years old reminded me in the evening that I promised an ice cream date for Christmas, so I had to drag myself out to fulfill that promise.  The DreamGirls And I was glad I did because the joy on their faces was priceless, and Matana actually hugged me and said "wow mum you did it" turns out Mummy has a track record of not keeping to date promises. *covers face*. Meanwhile, today is boxing day, December 26th, in case you have forgotten.  When I was a child I used to think boxing day was for boxing, like an actual fight and I always wondered why people had to fight just after the merriment of Christmas day. Until I dared to ask my Dad and he explained what It meant, the box is for gifting and not f

JOY TO THE WORLD! MERRY CHRISTMAS

Image
"...Oh  Merry Christmas Joy to the world For every nation For every boy And girl Let's light a candle For peace we pray Oh Merry Christmas It's Christmas day It's Christmas day It's Christmas day Let's light a candle For peace we pray Oh Merry Christmas It's Christmas day Oh Merry Christmas It's Christmas day" Merry Christmas Tribe!!! I trust you were dancing to that lovely Christmas song. Please don't ask me how a village girl came to know such a posh song *side eye at you*. Merry Christmas Tribe I've been feeling so Christmasy since I got up this morning. The joy that comes with Christmas can not be quantified. The joy of knowing that you were enough a reason for a man to send His only Child to come to redeem you,  even knowing that at some point you would misbehave and even turn away from Him but He gave His child away regards.  Oh, what a love! I must really matter. Yes, I matter. In fact, I matter in the matter that matters the most.

MY FAMILY REUNION; A NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER!

Image
Hey Tribe! How are you are are all doing today? I trust you are having a good day. I am well, thanks for asking. November is almost over and in a few days from now, we will be in December. I smell Christmasssssss! No darling, no pressure from here. I am just reminiscing on my childhood, you know na, I'm a village girl and by now we are already making plans to paint the town (no, sorry) village red. I can almost picture myself in my pleated flowery dress and high heeled sandals AKA koi koi shoe. You can read up on one of my experiences wearing my koi koi shoe by clicking  HERE (Please don't laugh *side eye at you if you do*) Oh! I am thinking of packing my bags already! Focus SemeGold, we aren't here to talk about your village life. Sigh! Ok, so it's Friday and I wanted to do a little through back, Flashback Friday kinda thing. Last week was my Aunty's 60th birthday and retirement party and when I got an invitation from her two weeks earlier I knew I had no choice b

NIGERIA AT SIXTY

Image
Happy Nigeria's Independence Tribe! I am shouting this at the top of my voice, please join me. Wow! Sixty good years of being free from colonial rule, and we are super excited about this. Today is not for complaining and wailing about the things that aren't working out and for Nigeria but a day to just sit, relax, and reminisce on our journey and how far we've come as a nation. If Nigeria was human, she would have retired from active service by now and resting her bones while she enjoyed the dividends of her years of labor and having her family surround her with love and too many Owanbe (party) to attend.  Sadly, this is not the storyline for Nigeria but we will celebrate regardless. Are there security challenges?  Poverty in the land?  Unemployment? Corruption? Food insecurity? Terrorism?  Poor Education?  Inequality?  High level of child mortality?  Tribalism? Home violence and many more? Yes, we will celebrate regardless. As we mark sixty years of independence today, we

SUPERHEROES!!!

Image
“Take away love and our earth is a tomb”.  Robert Browning. God sends us love in various forms and one of them is our Fathers. A father is a person who stands by your side no matter what. He loves his children unconditionally and the beauty of the relationship is that he does it all without demanding anything in return. The love and hidden affection in each of his acts are tremendously blissful. There’s nothing in the Universe that can give as much pleasure as the love of a father. A girl’s first Love ❤️                    He should be admired for what he does for everyone in the family. He is one of the most influential people in our life. No matter what, he will keep protecting you. Little wonder Tana, my four years old said something recently that resonated with me;  "All daddies fix the house, daddies are superheroes". My fondest memories as a child is that of my father being a fixer and superhero fixing whatever was broken or not working in the house.  Even when we were

HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY

Image
Nigeria's Democracy Day is a celebration to commemorate the restoration of democracy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.                             Hope for all This used to be celebrated on May 29th of every year since the inception of democratic rule in 1999.  However, in 2018 President Mohammadu Buhari declared June 12 to be a new Democracy Day to commemorate the democratic election of MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993, in what has been adjudged to be Nigeria's freest and fairest elections. It was, however, canceled by the Ibrahim Babangida Junta. MKO Abiola was later detained after he declared himself the president.     MKO Abiola campaign poster in 1993 How much has changed since democracy if you ask me? Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. Yourdictionary.com defines democracy as a form of government in which the common people hold political power and can rule either direct

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY!

Image
We are celebrating children's day today and I can't help but reminisce about my childhood. As a little village girl back in Uzebba, Edo state, Nigeria, a children's day celebration was something I always looked forward to, well every child my age did. We had fun activities and all. We will usually practice March past and eagerly wait for the big day when we will all be transported to the Local government council secretariat for a march past parade. On the big day, the council secretariat is filled with pupils from different schools ready for the parade having the small ones like me usually in front of the parade who will have the sole honor of having a handshake with the Local government chairman. We will all gladly sit on the field afterward, as we munch on our biscuit and gulp down hot fizzle drinks under the scorching Sun while we wait for the result to be announced. Now I wonder why we never felt the sun hot on our skin or maybe life was just a lot easier then. That was
